  • vart fall eller varje fall
  • Swedish:var/varje

To me, it appears as if varis just a short form of varjethat is used certain contexts/expressions. Lexin lists the following examples of use of var:

    • var fjortonde dagonce a fortnight
    • vart tredje årevery third year
    • vi fick en tia varwe got a ten kronor coin each
So, in short "every x y" and "each". (Do note that varin the first two examples is conjugated according to the noun.) Technically, there could be more constructions, but I can&#;t think of any at the moment. (Also, varannan is considered a single word rather than var annan(although that is obviously its origin).)

For other contexts where one normals uses varje, it is possible to use var, however, it sounds awfully old fashioned (and of course also formal). But since there is no situation in which such a level of formality could be suitable, I think it&#;s fair to say that varis simply an archaic form, rather than of a different formality level.

Regarding your example, I would opt for the former alternative in any possible context. That said, it is possible that the latter is used in certain dialects, and spoken language is always a story of its own.
