Västra hamnen (Swedish:[ˈvɛ̌sːtraˈhǎmnɛn], "western harbor") is a neighbourhood of Malmö, situated in the borough of Centrum, Malmö Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden. This sub-area is an artificial island. It is a residential, educational and industrial area in Malmö.

History

The whole area is made up of marine infill north of the original shoreline. Work began in the s at the present Inner Harbor and gradually expanded to the west and north. In the s, Kockums expanded its operations with shipbuilding and moved to the area. During the first half of the 20th century, the oil port was located in the area, but moved to the eastern parts of the harbor around to make room for the shipyard. In , Kockums constructed the world's largest dock in Västra hamnen.[2] Västra hamnen was an industrial area until the 21st century, when the last factory closed down.

Malmö hamn

Malmö hamn ligger vid utfylld mark norr ifall centrala malm. Sedan ägs Malmö hamn och Köpenhamns hamn gemensamt av Copenhagen Malmö Port AB. Tre gånger dagligen avgår Nordö Links färjor till Travemünde. Import från bilar existerar en betydelsefull del från hamnens omsättning. Bland annat Toyota använder Malmö hamn för för att leverera fordon till Skandinavien.

Malmö har historiskt inte haft någon naturlig djuphamn, undantaget den mindre ränna såsom öster ifall den äldsta staden gick in mot Kirseberget. Denna omtalades vid talet likt "Tinghamn" alternativt "Fitte hamb". Denna hamn verkar äga försvunnit vid talet. kalenderår omtalas dock vattendjupet inom hamnen ännu till ca två meter.[1]

    Innovative district in Malmö

    Västra Hamnen (Western harbour) is a new and ultra-modern district in Malmö. It is located on a former shipyard area right beside the sea, only less than a kilometer north-west of the medieval old town of Malmö.

    With the skyscraper Turning Torso as Malmö's new landmark, Västra Hamnen was built since on an approximately  hectare industrial wasteland. After its final completion, it will house approximately 10–12, inhabitants.

    The district combined living, working, education and leisure time and is the first project of its kind in Scandinavia, which is carbon neutral through its sustainability-oriented overall concept and received a corresponding environmental certification. The energy supply of the district is completely self-sufficient and is based percent on wind and solar energy and biogas. The air conditioning of the buildings is done by solar panels and heat pumps, seawater and groundwater.

    Besides the high quality of living, Västra hamnen has also a high and diverse recreational value. The entire area is criss-crossed by green spaces, ponds, artificial watercourses and fountains. In some places, there are swimming p
